Beautiful and elegant British hand cut saucer champagne (Coupe) glass. A truly beautiful glass for someone who loves a few bubbles
HISTORY OF THE COUPE GLASS
The Retro Coupe Glass is an elegant stemmed saucer champagne saucer is also suitable for cocktails. The flute for a while has become the preferred glass for sparkling wines, but this wasn't always the case.
Before the flute, the coupe was the glass for Champagne. This petite bowl or saucer-shaped glass has a rather raunchy origin! Legend has it that the coupe glass was moulded from Marie Antoinette's left breast, and that she wanted her court to toast her health by drinking from glasses shaped like her bosom. However, the glass was actually born long before the reign of the queen, in 1663 in England. It was one of the first, if not the first, glasses invented specifically for drinking Champagne.
