Port Glasses

Port Glasses

Port and sherry glasses are fairly small but large enough to swirl and capture the aromatics that affect how the wine tastes. Port is generally more alcoholic than wine and consumed slowly in small amounts. The Royal Scot Crystal glasses are the ideal size and shape to perfectly complement the port and are designed to concentrate the flavours and aromas.

Originating from Portugal, port is a typically sweet red wine, produced by adding distilled grape spirits during fermentation. This stops fermentation before all the sugar is converted to alcohol, resulting in a sweeter wine.
White and rosé ports are best served cold as an aperitif, while red and tawny ports are perfect after-dinner sips, especially with cheese.
Also available is white port (usually served as an aperitif) and rosé port, which is growing in popularity and often served long and cold or as a cocktail ingredient.
Traditionally, at the end of a meal when the port is passed around the table, the decanter should not come to rest, until it returns to the host. The bottom of the Hogget decanter, not being flat, ensures that a guest, cannot “hog” the port as it cannot be put down until it is returned to the host!
